Reading Comprehension

1st Feb 12

Reading Comprehension is the latest publication from ALEA. It presents some outcomes of a major professional learning project undertaken by ALEA Tasmania. The project was organised to provide teachers with opportunities to design, monitor and implement research based on powerful, accessible ideas about reading comprehension in their own classrooms.  Sixty teachers from across Tasmania participated in the project which began with two days of professional learning with Professor Freebody and Professor Scott Paris.  The teachers met together on six occasions throughout 2010.

The teachers' stories included in this publication describe individual learning journeys taken by a number of the participating teachers.  The stories provide windows into the thinking and practices which teachers developed as they explored new ways of teaching reading comprehension.  This is a book for teachers written by teachers.

Members of ALEA were sent a complimentary copy of Reading Comprehension in the October member mailout.  Non members can purchase the book for $25.00 plus postage by contacting the ALEA national office at office@alea.edu.au.
